Miami Beach wants us to celebrate America Recycles Day on Saturday, November 14, 2009, between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Lincoln Road at the Euclid Circle. Representatives from the recycling industry, non-profit environmental organizations, and City of Miami Beach staff will have informational booths.
Waste Management Inc. will provide information about the Miami-Dade County’s single-stream recycling program that began in December 2008. ePlanet/eWaste, LLC will be collecting used electronics such as computers, keyboards, monitors, printers, cell phones, and batteries during the event at the Euclid Circle. The company will also be raffling off five refurbished computers. The non-profit organization ECOMB along with the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce’s Sustainable Living Council will educate the public on community recycling and the benefits recycling offers the health of the local environment. In addition, the non-profit organization ReThink + ReUse Center will provide a hands-on exploratory play table for young children that uses reused materials to deliver the message of reduce, reuse, and recycle.
The Miami Beach Public Works’ Environmental Division staff will provide educational materials about the City’s recycling efforts, including the latest addition to the City’s recycling program that provides recycling bins at beach entrances from South Point Park to North Shore Open Space Park, selected parks citywide, and along the main city sidewalks such as Lincoln Road, Ocean Drive, Washington Avenue, 41 Street and 71 Street.
In addition to the educational tables at Lincoln Road, the Sanitation Division in cooperation with Waste Management and ePlanet/eWaste, will provide recycling drop off points at 75 Street & Dickens Avenue and at the event site of Euclid Circle on Lincoln Road. Residents can drop off electronics and commingled recyclables (office paper, magazines, cardboard, newspaper, plastic, metal, glass) at both of these two locations during the event times.
