One of the little known benefits of the Miami Dolphins brief championship effort was the partnership forged with the green movement bringing automated recycling machines to the stadium and distributing information about environmental preservation at the last home game of the season. While most fans had other matters on their minds (like beer and more beer), it’s encouraging to finally see a tiny bit of enlightenment spread at the ECO blind Dolphin Stadium.
Enter StubHub, a company dedicated to re-selling unused season tickets for a healthy profit. Working in tandem with the Dolphins at their first playoff game in seven years, StubHub introduced “Tickets for Trees, ” to help plant trees in our National Forests. For every ticket to that memorable Dolphins vs Ravens game that was re-sold on StubHub.com, the online ticket broker will plant trees in the National Forests of Florida in honor of the Miami Dolphins. While the final tally is not yet available, Joellen Ferrer of the National Forest Foundation expects several thousand trees will be planted based on donations from that fateful Ravens game.
There are 1.2 million acres of National Forests in Florida including Apalachicola, Ocala, and Osceola. StubHub will donate trees in honor of all the host teams in the NFL Playoffs throughout the postseason and to the Ocala National Forest for Super Bowl XLIII which is being hosted this year by the City of Tampa.
“We are excited to involve our fans in this campaign to help restore the country’s National Forests,” Ferrer said. A final count of the NFL StubHub partnership will be revealed once the Super Bowl ticket sales are completed after game day, February First.
