Miami Beach Homes Go Green

January 12, 2009 by robin606

If you are looking for ways to make your South Florida home Green, check out the new products from Bear Creek Glass at Allied Kitchen and Bath in Fort Lauderdale or www.bearcreekglass.com where you will find fixtures composed of 100% recycled hand-blown glass and energy-saving LED lights. Gaiam’s Eco-Home line features environmentally conscious options including indoor/outdoor rugs made from reclaimed soda bottles.

To give your walls a lift, check out YOLO Colorhouse, a new Green resource started by two artists seeking cleaner non-toxic paints. YOLO was the first independent company to release a zero-VOC, Green seal certified exterior house paint. This year, look for a brand new range of paints sold in 100% post-consumer recycled plastic cans. Order your YOLO products at www.yolocolorhouse.com.

Mod Green Pod creates eco-chic wallpapers silk-screened by hand in New England following all Global Organic Textile Standards. Green homeowners can use these wallpapers with confidence as they utilize non-toxic inks, and no harmful chemicals in processing. Building shutters and fences from wood can be eco-friendly if the right products are specified. Cali Bamboo products are culled from fully-renewable resources and a percentage of company revenues is donated to environmental organizations. To learn more about the Green qualities of bamboo shutters and blinds, check out www.calibamboo.com.

Keep your home Green with these chemical-free substitutes for harsh household products:

Pour 1/2 cup of hydrogen peroxide into your wash instead of chlorine bleach

Use 1 cup of plain white vinegar in 2 gallons of hot water to clean tile floors

Add 1/2 cup of white vinegar to 1 teaspoon of olive oil to polish your wood furniture

The juice of a lemon and a little plain borax can scour tubs and tiles

Pour 1/4 cup baking soda and a cup of white vinegar into your toilet to power out tough stains
