Miami Holiday Clean Up – Recycling Christmas Trees

December 29, 2008 by robin606

Did you know that the City of Miami recycles Christmas trees? Now that the holidays are drawing to a close, all you have to do is take down your decorations and leave the tree on the curb from Wednesday, January 7 through Wednesday, January 14 and your not-so evergreen will be hauled away to be used for organic mulch.

The Department of Solid Waste is also collecting trees at the South Dade Landfill at 24000 SW 97 Avenue from 7am-5:30pm daily. To be certain your tree is ready for recycling, double check that the tinsel, lights and other decorations are all removed before you drop it off! If you are simply too filled with the Christmas Spirit to part with your tree, know that after the 14th of January, the city will not take your tree away from the curbside and you will have to do the heavy lifting on your own.

Centers available for tree drop off after January 14th are opened 7am-5:30pm:

North Dade 2*, 21500 NW 47 Avenue
Norwood, 19901 NW 7 Avenue
Palm Springs North 2*, 7870 NW 178 Street
West Little River 2*, 1830 NW 79 Street
Golden Glades 1, 2*, 140 NW 160 Street
Sunset Kendall 2*, 8000 SW 107 Avenue
Snapper Creek 1, 3*, 2200 SW 117 Avenue
Richmond Heights, 14050 Boggs Drive
Chapman Field 3, 4*, 13600 SW 60 Avenue
Eureka Drive 2*, 9401 SW 184 Street
West Perrine 2*, 16651 SW 107 Ave
Moody Drive 1, 2*, 12970 SW 268 Street
South Miami Heights, 20800 SW 117 Court

As an added incentive to recycle your tree, the city is offering free Christmas Tree Chips to give your lawn a pine-fresh mulch! Pick up your chips at these three locations:

North Dade Trash and Recycling Center,  21500 NW 47 Avenue
Sunset Kendall, 8000 SW 107 Avenue
Eureka Drive Trash and Recycling Center, 9401 SW 184 Street
Happy GREEN Holidays!
